The College Experience

Two students are now sharing their Trevecca experiences with the Middle-Tennessee television audience. In early March the Fox affiliate in Nashville, Fox-17, proposed to Trevecca’s Office of Marketing a weekly segment featuring two college students, a female and a male, who chronicle their lives at Trevecca.

Recognizing the opportunity to tell the Trevecca story in a new way, the Office of Marketing accepted the proposal and invited students to submit applications to become the featured students in the segment, called “The College Experience.” Applicants were required to submit video “applications” that described their own college experiences. Meredith Fitzsimons, a junior mass communication major from Kansas City, Kansas, and Zach Sutton, a junior organizational communication major from Independence, Missouri, were the winners. With flip video cameras in hand, they began recording their daily lives.

For her video application, Meredith focused on the most important parts of her life—friends, family, and her classes. Her video impressed the Fox-17 staff, who showed the tapes to personnel in the Fox network main office. Those persons were impressed enough to consider the possibility that “The College Experience” could become a new reality show for the network.

Meredith’s and Zach’s stories began airing in late March, as part of the Wednesday morning edition of Fox-17’s “Tennessee Mornings,” and will continue until the end of May. The station’s ratings are improved when viewers watch the segments and when they visit the “Tennessee Morning” Facebook page, where the segments will be posted.
